Family Ties
This film was inspired by the story of our director's aunt, Lynne Johnson, who struggled with bipolar disorder, alcoholism, and a form of undiagnosed schizophrenia through out most of her life. This story is composed of anecdotes told by those who knew her best and through passages taken straight from Lynne's personal journal. All handwritten font featured in this film have been created using her journal as reference.
When the Music Stops is a personal narrative based on the true story of Lynne Johnson, a woman from Gloucester, MA who is forced to deal with the debilitating mental and physical cost of living with bipolar disorder. Lynne must face the challenges of finding a career, developing lasting relationships, and raising a family as her mental health deteriorates rapidly.
When the Music Stops is a story that aims to break down the social stigma around mental illness using real events to foster discussion. With this story, it is our goal to educate viewers on the consequences that arise when a society is too afraid to discuss mental health or treat it as a legitimate illness.
